WHAT IS GLASTONBURY AMATEUR BASEBALL (GAB)?
Glastonbury Amateur Baseball (GAB) is Glastonbury’s summer and fall travel baseball program. GAB is intended for players who are willing to dedicate time and effort to improve individual and team skills and interested in playing against the best competition in the area. GAB is a natural extension of the Glastonbury Little League program. The primary goal of GAB is to place each selected player on a team that will offer appropriate challenges and opportunities for success. While winning is important, the major focus of GAB is player development. The GAB administrative and coaching staffs strive to prepare players for High School and American Legion baseball. However, GAB also welcomes and provides opportunities for talented players who may not play High School or American Legion baseball.
Player selection and placement will be based upon tryouts, as well as previous playing experience. Depending on the team and level of play, games and practices will be scheduled 3 to 5 days per week for summer teams, and will include weekend events. While some conflicts maybe unavoidable, all selected players are expected to make a serious commitment to summer baseball. Participation in other team sports and extended vacations prior to mid-August are not compatible with the summer program. Fall teams play weekend games and typically practice once during the school week.
GAB tries to balance player development with competitiveness when putting teams together. Every effort is made to provide players with an opportunity to play and develop baseball skills. The overall objective GAB is develop players in order to compete state-wide on the American Legion Senior level. Coaches of teams on all levels below the Senior Legion level are charged with providing sufficient playing time for each player assigned to their team as the primary focus; coaches try to win games as part of this charge rather than at the expense of this charge. Coaches are committed to the development of ALL players on teams.
Every effort is made to place a player who has registered by the prescribed deadline and participated in the designated tryout for their age group on a team. Much of this is determined by the number of players who register on each age group and the overall abilities of those players as a group. Unfortunately, there may not be a spot for everyone - all parents and players need to be aware of this possibility heading into registrations and tryouts.
